Wardrobe -- Minus the Lion and the Witch

A wardrobe was used in period homes because they weren't usually built with closets. Victorian era people used to store their clothes in trunks and boxes and then the wardrobe came into being and people could finally have a place to hang up their clothes. That was a timesaver in ironing because back in the day you had to heat up your irons on the stove. Laundry day must have taken a week! So, thank goodness that wardrobes are still around. We often have a guest room tucked up in the garret or attic, or in a room built without a closet, so it's great to have a place for visitors to hang up their clothes. Wardrobes come in many styles and materials so you an get a plain one, or a wardrobe that looks antique, but doesn't cost as much. And, they are useful, occasionally, in plays as well. Just make sure they don't tip over and fall off the turntable!
