If the finish is fairly light, then down the road you can buff it off and re-apply another coat, much like a floor. Purchase the correct cleaning agents for your oak table and other oak products -- usually a spray wax will take care of them. Certain grains and types of oaks are in and out of style, depending on the decade. If you buy a used oak table then you can update it.
