Oak Furniture -- The Classic Wood
Oak has been used for centuries as a wood most often prized for furniture making and other products. It is a lovely wood with an interesting and instantly recognizable grain. Oak takes to staining very well and there are also several natural colors of oak -- golden and red being two of them. Oak is also used as firewood (usually dead and downed trees), for flooring, and for accessories in your home. Oak looks great in bookcases, kitchen cabinets, or as flooring in a family room or den. There are several qualities of oak as well as types of stain, and while lighter oak was in vogue in the eighties, a darker stain is usually put on in this millennium. You can also re-stain your cabinets, floors or furniture to bring them up to date. Oak office chairs are great but you have to make sure that the wood hasn't dried out. That can cause a nasty pinching if cracks have developed.
