Sitting on an old or antique sofa where the springs are "gone" or missing, can be a real pain, literally, in the you know what! Another thing that might concern you with an antique sofa, or chairs, is the fact that that fabric that stills looks quite attractive, could be hiding a lot of dirt or stains or even mold, underneath. With a modern reproduction of these pieces, you can be assured that while it may look old, it certainly isn't! It's brand new and sterile and looks terrific, if you get the higher quality ones. You may consider sofas or chairs in leather, or leather lookalike or a great fabric that you will enjoy looking at and sitting on. Certain fabrics were in vogue in the Victorian era, and both before and after that as well. The Victorians loved flowery things so their fabric and designs tended to be floral and some people think, overdone and too bright. Some antiques have been upholstered in velvet or cut-out velvet, but since you are buying a reproduction, the choice of fabric is entirely up to you.
